The Sun signifies the soul, ego, father, authority, positions of power, the King, etc. It usually behaves as a benefic with a no-nonsense attitude for Leo, Aries, Scorpio and Sagittarius ascendants.

When strong, these people display positive qualities of the Sun like independence, leadership, intelligence and deep insight.

The Sun in Vedic Astrology is the karaka for identity.

When the Sun is strong in one’s natal chart, it leads to one’s awareness of the divine self (Atma).

When the Sun is debilitated, it represents the ego or self obsession.

When the Sun is weak in a natal chart, the following indications are seen:

In their Personality:

Low self esteem or low self respect, and a lack of self confidence. These natives will display a lack of strength, willpower, courage, and will show fear in dealing with others.

He / she may also lack motivation, drive, and maybe emotionally and materially dependent on family and friends.

Success in their life is limited or the levels of success achieved will not be satisfactory to them.

At Work:

In the office environment, there will be constant problems with colleagues or with the boss.

Relationship with the Father:

There may be limited or a debilitated relationship with their father, whose fate in life will be diminished. Chances are the father may have a limited life span.

Physically:

He / she may suffer from anaemia, low energy, poor appetite, a weak heart, weak digestion, an increased risk of hemorrhage and poor circulation.

They may also suffer from weak eyesight, weak bones, and even arthritis.

In a natal chart, the Sun is considered debilitated in the following circumstances:

  • Debilitated when posited in Libra.
  • When placed in an inimical sign of Saturn or Venus.
  • In difficult houses (6, 8 or 12th).
  • When aspected by natural malefics like Rahu, Ketu (nodes of the Moon), and Saturn.

12 Simple Remedies for a weak or malefic Sun in Vedic Astrology

Below are simple and practical remedies to rapidly strengthen a weak Sun in a horoscope.

Some of these remedies require conscious behavioural changes, whilst others require minor dietary changes.

Note. The below remedies all work 100%. Keep in mind that the strength or weakness of a planet in ones horoscope has to do with past life karmas and present life lessons. It takes a little patience and dedication.

1. The Sun adores the Gayatri Mantra

Chanting the Gayatri Mantra 3, 9, 21, or 108 times a day will begin to rapidly strengthen the Sun in your horoscope, no matter which house or sign the Sun sits in. Do not chant after consuming meat or alcohol.

The best time to chant the Gayatri Mantra for the Sun is during the Hora (hour) of the Sun each day. You can find the table that outlines the times above.

Gayatri Mantra:

Om Bhur Bhuva Shaw

Tat Savitur Varenyam

Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi

Dhiyo Yonah Prachodayat

Note. The power of the Gayatri Mantra is significant. After chanting, one must follow it with ‘Om Shanti Shanti Shanti’, inorder to ensure that the energies bring about no harm.

2. Recite or listen to the Aditya Hrudayam Stotram daily

The stotram is a sacred hymn dedicated to the Sun.

Made of 31 shlokas, it is the prayer that pleases Lord Aditiya, which is another name for the Sun.

Best time to listen would be in the mornings as the Sun rises or during the hora (hour) of the Sun.

3. Perform Surya Namaskar in the mornings as the Sun rises

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is debe430dec197fac796cc24b7d7d3ca2.png

The ideal time for performing the Surya Namaskar is within the first hour after sunrise. Try and hold each position for at least 5 seconds.

This process activates, clears and nourishes our five main glands as well as all of our chakras.

Aim for four (4) repetitions of the complete twelve (12) steps.

4. Offer water to the Sun

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is rsz_1808353682.jpg

In addition to Surya Namaskar, offer the Sun water in a copper vessel (lota).

Add to this a small red flower, a pinch of sindoor and a few grains of rice. 3 pieces is sufficient.

Procedure: Stand before the sun, raise the copper vessel of water above your head and pour forward, ensuring that the rays of the Sun shine through the water before falling in you.

Whilst pouring the water, chant the Gayatri Mantra at least three times.

Note. You can offer the Sun water on cloudy days as well. Face where you believe the Sun is posited for that time of morning, raise the copper vessel above your head and begin pouring.

5. Drink fenugreek tea

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is rsz_manki-kim-l82-kkebod0-unsplash-1024x683.jpg

It takes only about a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds to make a pot of fenugreek tea. You can add a little honey for taste.

This tea will help strengthen the Sun, Moon and Mars in your horoscope, in addition to the multitude of other health benefits.

Consume 1 – 2 cups of fenugreek tea daily. Drinking it during the hora of the Sun will prove further beneficial.

6. Consume a few almonds daily

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is rsz_remi-yuan-nn05fngosme-unsplash-1024x683.jpg

A few to a handful of almonds is more than enough, primarily when the Sun is up.

This will help boost the Sun’s strength in both your body and your chart.

7. Drink water from a copper vessel each day

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Lota.jpeg

If possible, let water sit in a copper vessel overnight, then drink from this first thing in the morning. Not only will this awaken your organs, but will also strengthen the Sun in your body and natal chart. This is a powerful remedy to alleviate weak Sun related illnesses in the body.

8. Worship Lord Shiva, and chant the name of Rama

Lord Shiva is the presiding deity for the Sun. Worshiping Lord Shiva will rapidly strengthen your Sun.

You can do this through chanting ‘Om Namah Shivay’, pouring water with a few drops of milk onto a Shiva Linga, or listening to Shiva mantras on Youtube. Any form of worship to Lord Shiva will help.

In addition, you can chant the name of Lord Rama. Repeating ‘Ram’ over and over again daily will increase the strength of the Sun.

‘Ram’ is the beej mantra for the Manipura Chakra, also known as, the Solar Plexus. It is the storehouse of our Sanchita karma – the primary reason for our cycle of birth, death, and re-birth.

Chanting Ram strengthens our Solar Plexus, as well as burning off our Sanchita Karma, speeding up our spiritual evolution.

If you have chanting beads, recite the name or Sri Ram 108 times daily.

‘Sri’ represents the Divine Feminine, whilst ‘Ram’ represents the divine masculine. It does not matter what religion you follow, Sri Ram will be of benefit to all.

Another powerful meditation method involves writing out ‘Jai Sri Ram’ 108 times by hand with red ink daily. This will significantly, and rapidly strengthen one’s Sun in their horoscope.

The Ideal time for this is at sunrise or during the hora of the Sun.

9. Cut down on meat and alcohol consumption

The Sun is a prana giving force. When we consume high pranic foods, our Sun gains strength. When we consume low or nil pranic foods, our Sun weakens further.

Meat is dead matter devoid of all prana. Alcohol also dramatically reduces our life force.

Cut back on these types of food and drink if you want to cause dramatic shifts in your life.

The below suggestions are behavioural changes:

10. Be good to your father

The Sun represents father in an individuals horoscope. Whenever we’re interacting with our father, the Sun is active in our charts.

Always be mindful of your actions towards your father. Be conscious of your thoughts, words and actions.

11. Be Punctual

The Sun represents the minute hand on the clock. When we respect time, we respect the Sun. Being on time increases the strength of the Sun in horoscope.

12. Be mindful of your character and actions

The Sun does not like lies, cheating or deception of any kind. Each time you engage in any activity that is considered bad, the Sun in your natal chart weakens providing you the negative results of a weak Sun.

Lower in the article you will find remedies for the Sun in individual houses.

They represent the seven chakras in our spine, as well as, the seven colours of the rainbow, and the seven days of the week.

These chakras and the meridians that run through them are the storehouses of what is called our ‘Sanchita’ karma. It is the reason for the cycle of our death, re-birth, and death.
