“Asaadhyam Sadhaka Swamin, Asadhyam Thava Kim Vada

Ramadutha Krupasindho Mathkaryam Saadhaya Prabho”

This is a mantra, one of the Spirituality Zone community members asked us to look into.

It is a beautiful and powerful Sanskrit verse, often recited as a prayer for removing obstacles and achieving the impossible. It is a heartfelt plea to Lord Hanuman.

Here is a detailed breakdown of its meaning:

Literal Word-by-Word Meaning

  • Asaadhyam: Impossible, unachievable.
  • Sadhaka Swamin: O Lord (Swamin) who accomplishes (Sadhaka).
  • Asadhyam: The impossible.
  • Thava Kim Vada: What is (Kim) to You (Thava), I say (Vada)? Meaning, “What is impossible for you?”
  • Ramadutha: Messenger of Lord Rama (a primary name for Hanuman).
  • Krupasindho: O Ocean (Sindhu) of Mercy (Krupa).
  • Mathkaryam: My task (Karyam), my work.
  • Saadhaya Prabho: Please accomplish (Saadhaya), O Lord (Prabho).

Overall Translation and Sentiment

Putting it all together, the verse translates to:

“O Lord who accomplishes the impossible, what can I say is impossible for you?
O Messenger of Rama (divine masculine), O ocean of mercy, please fulfil my task, O Lord!”

Explanation and Significance

  1. The First Line – An Affirmation of Faith: The devotee begins by glorifying Hanuman. He is addressed as Sadhaka Swamin (the master achiever) because he is famous for accomplishing the most difficult tasks, like finding Sita in Lanka and bringing the Sanjeevani herb. The rhetorical question, “What is impossible for you?” is a statement of absolute faith. It says, “I know that for a being of your power and devotion, nothing is unachievable.”
  2. The Second Line – A Humble Plea: Having established Hanuman’s supreme capability, the devotee then makes his personal request. He calls upon Hanuman’s two most beloved qualities:
    • Ramadutha: His unwavering status as the devoted servant of Lord Rama. By invoking this, the devotee appeals to Hanuman’s divine connection and righteousness.
    • Krupasindho: His immense compassion. Hanuman is not just powerful but also full of grace and kindness for his devotees.
  3. The Purpose: This prayer is a classic example of Sankalpa (resolve) through surrender. The devotee acknowledges that their goal (Mathkaryam) seems insurmountable to them, but they place their complete trust in Hanuman’s ability and mercy to make it happen.
